Uncle Eric's Guitar and Bass Tinkers' Blog: From Modding to Grooving
Welcome to Uncle Eric's Guitar and Bass Tinkers' Blog! This is a space where I'll be sharing my experiences with modding guitars and basses, chasing that perfect tone, and diving into the details of setups and repairs. Whether you're a fellow tinkerer or just curious about the process, I hope you find something here that sparks your interest or helps you with your own projects.
For those who don't know me, my journey into guitars started with a single deal that changed everything. I spotted a white Squier Strat SE with a pearloid pickguard sitting in the back of a seller's car. Something about that guitar called to me, and for $100, I walked away with it and a Squier SP-10 amp. That was the moment that kicked off my deep dive into modding, learning, and tinkering with guitars.
Modding became more than just a hobby—it became an obsession. I tore down that Strat and customized it, swapping out pickups, replacing hardware, and experimenting with wiring. Over time, I began to understand the nuances of guitar setup and what it takes to make an instrument truly yours. It's not just about the parts you put in, but how everything comes together to create a unique sound and feel. That’s what this blog is all about—tinkering until you find what works for you.
A few years ago, I made the jump from focusing on guitars to embracing the bass. Bass playing brings a different kind of groove, one that I've come to love more and more. There’s something about locking into a rhythm and being the foundation of the music that keeps me coming back. I've been taking bass lessons for about 18 months now, and this blog will also cover my journey of learning, improving, and modding basses to get the tones that speak to me.
This blog is where I’ll be documenting all of this—my mods, my progress as a player, and the gear I’ve come to rely on. I hope it becomes a place where other guitar and bass tinkerers can share their own experiences, ask questions, and dive into the details that make modding such a rewarding process. Whether you're a seasoned player or just getting into it, there’s always more to explore.
Stay tuned for more posts where I'll break down specific mods, offer tips, and share stories from my years of tinkering. Welcome to the Guitar and Bass Tinkers' Blog—
Uncle Eric
